Caleb's development update @ 2 years 9mths

Child Development Age 2 to 3

" What to expect from your 2 to 3 year old "

1. Uses up to 50 single words Yes, haven't counted but his vocabulary has definitely expanded a lot
2 Can put together 2 word sentences Yes, sometimes 3 or 4 words but usually not in full complete sentences
3. Follows 2 step commands Yes, when he wants to
4. Gets better at physical activity (throwing, jumping, climbing, stacking). Oh yes, all the time!
5. Likes being more independent in dressing, brushing teeth, washing and drying hands, etc. Yes, he wants to do all by himself now. He brushes his own teeth, wash his hands + drying hands, removes his clothes & put on his clothes (include tops, pants & socks but exclude those with buttons like jeans or shirts), eat his meals on his own (but tends to pick out what he don't like as a result) so after that I still need to spoon feed him
6. Gets better at walking up and down stairs. Yes, he is expert in stairs now probably because we have been staying in houses with stairs!
7. Attention span starts to increase Yes e.g.can finish his whole story book without trying to flip to the next page everytime!
8. Becomes more social and wants to start playing with others. Yes, but tends to chose who he wants to play with
9. Most toddlers show an increasing interest in using the potty. Most agree that the best time to starting working on potty training is when the child starts to show interest. He tends to want to go to the toilet for wee in the mornings and before his bath and before bedtime. Other than that, he don't care because he knows his training pants can catch his wee! Still needs more practice. He can't be trained nappyless because this house is fully-carpeted. But he is getting there. He'll take off his pants and training pants and climb on top of the toilet bowl so he can sit and pee. Felix will need to show him how to pee standing up soon! :P
10. Starts to notice changes or deviations in a routine or routines. Yes! He knows where he will go every week and if we do something different, he will start to ask questions
11. Begins to change speech (words & tones) depending on who he/she is talking with (another child, adult, parent, etc.). Kind of, still developing. He does tend to be more polite with mummy, says Sorry to me but not to daddy. :P
12. Starts to ask more and more questions (Why this?, Why that?). He has yet to ask "Why" questions but he ask "What is this?" and "What is that?"
13. Becomes more interested in finding out what motivates people to do things. Errmm...haven't notice this aspect of him yet.
14. Wants to know why people act a certain way (Why's daddy angry?) Haven't notice this from yet as well.
15. May start to create an imaginary play friend. Nope, not at all.
16. Becomes more interested in the opposites sex and what anatomy is different from boys and girls. During one of Caitlin's nappy change time, he looking intently at his meimei's private part and decided to poke at it and then ask me "Where is meimei's ji-ji?" ^+^

Caleb is still rather slow in terms of speech development as he still no complete sentences from him. But he is really keen to learn new words and his vocabulary has greatly improved. He is getting more polite nowadays, probably more towards me than anyone else since he sees me 24/7. Polite a way he says please, thank you and sorry. But of course it will still depend on his mood whether he wants to say it or not.

He is getting pretty good with puzzles. He absolutely loves this Melissa & Doug 4 puzzles in a box one which have 12 pieces each (aeroplane, ship, motorbike & fire engine puzzles), thanks to Eve & Stanley. So just 3 days ago we bought him a wiggles 20 piece puzzles and he completed it with almost no help! Just 1 prompt from felix on 1 piece and the rest he piece them up all by himself!

At the moment, Caleb could only count 1 to 10 but does not recognise the numbers yet. He don't know his ABCs. He loves drawing and painting. He is not good in singing. He likes pretend play. He operates the dvd player very well with his favourite dvds. He loves to read his books. When he plays with his friends, he tends to want to lead. But he is can be rough with his peers as he does not like to share his toys most of the time.

Ok, I think that is about it, shall update more when I can think of more. :P
